THE 2020 application window is now closed

In light of the US Department of State’s Global Level 4 Health Advisory – Do Not Travel order, the College is not able to accept international travel SEF requests, unless they are in the student's home country.
The SEF application process is currently moving forward as planned. However, because domestic travel warnings are under review and consideration by the Centers for Disease Control, the College cannot guarantee that SEF funds will be available for positions that require domestic travel.

Skidmore’s Summer Experience Fund (SEF) provides up to a $4,000 stipend to support students completing an unpaid summer experience. The goal of this award is to help students gain the experience, skills, knowledge, and connections within their chosen field without the burden of having to support themselves while engaging in unpaid experiences.

SEF funding supports unpaid experiences including internships, volunteer opportunities, research assignments, community service projects, artists residencies, apprenticeships, and more. Funding is also available for graduating seniors through Skidmore's Post-Graduation Award and more. SEF Award winners come from all academic disciplines in all class years and pursue opportunities in every industry and in every country in the world.

Begun in 2009 through the generosity of dedicated Skidmore donors (alumni, parents and friends of the College), this fund started with 9 awards and currently supports around 150 students each summer.
