The Destroyer Escort Historical Museum in Albany, NY, is built around the only United States Navy destroyer escort still floating: the USS Slater. The museum is ideal for interns interested in the Battle of the Atlantic and World War II.
The internship provides two distinct opportunities for students:
1. An intern could work as a tour guide aboard the Slater, giving a one hour un-scripted tour of the ship. According to the Executive Director, Tim Rizutto, this role requires a lot of independent study and training.
2. An intern could also work in museum collections management. The museum is currently working on an initiative to digitize their expansive collection in order to make it more publicly accessible.
3. Students interested in a non-academic experience could also help with ship maintenance.
