FLASH Internships

Employers Frequently Asked Questions

This page is designed to assist employers with answering specific questions related to the FLASH Internship Program.

A FLASH internship offers employers the following unique benefits:

  • access to year-round talent available to complete a wide range of projects to meet your organization’s goals
  • creates a diverse talent pool for long-term recruiting
  • cost-effective: minimal training needed and no cost to recruit
  • posting a FLASH internship is quick and easy
  • improved retention in entry-level roles and reduced attrition
  • Flash internships are best suited for short-term, project-based needs. If you can simply explain what you need a student to accomplish and it wouldn’t take more than about 40 hours of work, a FLASH internship is likely a good fit.
  • Through FLASH internships you can, for example, have a graphic designer create your marketing materials, a computer science major optimize your Excel output, and a business student proofreading your financial analysis all for less than the cost of a traditional intern.
  • If you need longer-term interns, a traditional opportunity may be more suitable, and you should contact our Employer Relations team to discuss your needs.
Each FLASH project is unique and requires individual consideration for length and pay rate.  We recommend an honest assessment of the hours required for the project multiplied by an appropriate rate of pay not less than the applicable minimum wage.  Average rates of pay range from $16-$20 per hour for undergraduate students, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Longer, more complicated projects requiring specialized skills should be paid at higher rates.

The following are examples of FLASH internships and pay rates:

  • LinkedIn Article Generation: A FLASH intern will create a LinkedIn Article on a targeted topic for your company. You will provide adequate background and focus and the FLASH intern will create an optimized post to a target audience.  Estimated hours: 15.  Estimated pay: $250.
  • Research: A FLASH intern will survey 50 students and provide you with the results. You will provide the survey.  The FLASH intern will compile the data and provide it in a form of your choosing.  Estimated hours: 20.  Estimated pay: $360.
  • Social Media Calendaring: A FLASH intern will create a social media calendar with one post per day for an entire month. You will advise on the target audience and key topics. The Flash intern will identify key social media influencers for your target audience, locate and engage with relevant content, and provide a summary of efforts.  Estimated hours: 20.  Estimated pay: $380.
  • Lead Generation: The FLASH intern will identify 15 prospective leads for your business. You will provide the parameters for the leads. The FLASH intern will prepare a review of lead portfolios including key information you request. Estimated hours: 30.  Estimated pay: $540.
