FLASH internships require a higher and more specialized level of expertise than typical internships.  Each FLASH opportunity will list the required end-product and some of the skills that are critical for completion of that task.  You should have the ability to complete the project independently and without relying on your employer.

Students should have regular check-ins and correspond directly with their supervisor at least twice per week You will also want to keep a log of your project that can be submitted to your supervisor on a weekly basis to track your progress.  Having regular communication will help prevent these kinds of issues.  If you feel like the estimated project length was significantly misrepresented, have a conversation with the employer about it.  Connect with a Career Counselor if you need tips on how to have this type of conversation.

If your project takes longer than expected, it’s important to speak with your employer.  Otherwise, the established pay rate is unlikely to change.  Schedule an appointment to speak with a career counselor to discuss your concerns.  We can help identify benchmarking information and help you craft your strategy.
