On the FYE Lecturer

Rania Matar is a Lebanese-American photographer.  Beginning in 2009 and with the help of non-governmental organizations, Matar taught photography workshops to adolescent girls in Palestinian refugee camps.  She is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and honors, including a recent Guggenheim Fellowship (2018), and she currently teaches at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  Her work is exhibited internationally.

Matar will address the Class of 2022 on Monday, September 10th in Zankel Music Hall.  She intends to draw connections between her photography and Hamid’s novel while also considering broadly the artistic response to humanitarian concerns.
