Professor Malen joins the department at Skidmore this fall as an Assistant Professor. He received his Ph.D. in 2016 at The™ Ohio State University, after which he did postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics and Duke University, and then taught at Union College as a Visiting Assistant Professor prior to arriving at Skidmore. His research interests are in the areas of topological combinatorics, graph theory, and applied topology. He enjoys teaching a variety of courses at all levels, including the calculus sequence, intro to proof writing, probability, and graph theory. He loves games and puzzles of all kinds, and strongly believes that if math isn't fun then we're not doing it right.
