All exempt and non-exempt staff are encouraged to join the SAG steering committee or serve on a SAG committee!

STAFF ADVISORY GROUP:

  • Officially launched in September 2015
  • Committee structure revised in September 2017

CURRENT STEERING COMMITTEE STRUCTURE:

  • At present, composed of six staff who all attend steering committee meetings and assist with tasks as work load permits. Would prefer ten or more staff.
  • Moderator(s) - Facilitate steering committee meetings and SAG events/guest speakers; Send committee meeting agendas/reminders; This rotates between three or more members.
  • Recorder(s) – Take minutes of steering committee meetings and guest speakers; Send for review and post on SAG website once approved; One staff person, but would prefer two or more.
  • Secretary – Inquires about space needs and reserves room.
  • Treasurer – Keeps track of budget and budget procedures; Human Resources liaison regarding budget matters.
  • Website Coordinator(s) – Work with Skidmore Communications and Marketing office to update SAG website; rotates between two or more volunteers.

CURRENT STEERING COMMITTEE TASKS:

  • Meet approximately once a month with additional meetings as needed when planning events/guest speakers
  • Exchange emails with other Steering Committee members as needed
  • Plan Fall Staff Welcome Reception
  • Plan SAG guest speakers/other events
  • Form committees comprised of staff not on the steering committee as needed (example: Fall staff welcome reception planning committee)
  • Send notices and reminders to staff list about upcoming events/speakers
  • Seek feedback/input from staff
  • Answer questions from/give input to administration

  • Gain greater understanding of structure and systems of the college
  • Meet colleagues and develop friendships across campus
  • Access greater breadth and depth of information affecting staff
  • Have a voice in affecting positive change in college procedures through communication with Human Resources, President, and Cabinet
  • Experience greater satisfaction and sense of community through helping to create a healthier, more inclusive campus
  • Hone communication and leadership skills
  • Gain visibility as a campus leader
