Daniel Swift, assistant professor of English, has been shortlisted for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, awarded annually for the best work of literature by a UK or Commonwealth writer less than 35 years old. He was nominated for his book Bomber County. Read more here.
Activities
Lei Ouyang Bryant, assistant professor of music, presented her research on "Arts and Activism in Asian America" to the Department of Music at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., earlier in October. The guest lecture took place in Chuen-Fung Wong's course "Music, Race, and Ethnicity."
Roy H. Ginsberg, Joseph C. Palamountain Professor of Government and Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration Studies, gave a lecture on the European Union foreign policy and crisis management Oct. 25 at Canisius College, Buffalo.

Robert P. DeSieno, professor emeritus of computer science, is the author of an opinion essay titled "Rescue of the miners can save the rest of us," published Oct. 17 in the Albany Times Union.
Gordon Thompson, professor of music, has been appointed the next editor of the quarterly newsletter published by the Society of Ethnomusicology. The publications advisory committee and the executive board of the society recently announced the appointment.
Sue Van Hook, who recently retired after a career as a senior teaching associate in biology, presented an "Academic Minute" Oct. 13 on WAMC-FM. Click here for details.
