CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The Intergroup Relations Program (IGR) at Skidmore College is pleased to issue a call
for proposals for an inaugural Northeastern IGR Conference, to take place June 7–10,
2015. This conference will bring together individuals from colleges and universities
in the Northeast who have developed (or an interest in developing) intergroup dialogue
programs, courses and cocurricular events in their local settings.
In the interest of meeting our goal of connecting and invigorating those involved
in IGR-related work, we welcome submissions designed to share best practices and research
related to this unique pedagogical approach. We welcome submissions on all IGR-related
topics, and in various formats, including:
- Individual poster presentations (abstracts between 300 and 700 words)
- Wholly constituted sessions on particular topics or techniques (with names and affiliations of all presenters)
- Thematic conversations (panels of two or more scholars/practitioners engaged in exchange on a particular topic)
Topics of possible focus include:
- New best practices for intergroup dialogue (IGD) courses and facilitation; innovations in dialogic pedagogy
- Outcomes- or other IGD-related research
- Program development: strategies for creating, building and sustaining IGR programs in institutional settings
- New best practices or strategies for recruiting and training faculty and staff in facilitation techniques
- Strategies and successes in developing community, cocurricular and other integrative and interdisciplinary initiatives
- Strategies for applying intergroup dialogue concepts in non-academic settings (e.g., non-academic research organizations)
- Strategic problem-solving around dealing with potential or actual institutional barriers and constraints
- Alumni panels: post-graduate experiences among students who have experienced, trained in and practiced the IGR/IGD model
