December staff meeting recap

President Marc Conner and College administrators updated Skidmore staff about important human resources initiatives; cabinet-level searches; plans for new indoor and outdoor tennis courts and a new health, wellness, tennis, and athletics center; the end of the fall semester; and other news and events at the monthly staff meeting on Friday, Dec. 2.

Director of Human Resources Julie Delay extended a welcome to 14 new staff members who joined Skidmore in November. She highlighted a variety of professional development, training, and networking opportunities available to staff as noted on HR’s Professional Development and Training webpage.

She also announced that Skidmore is planning to hold a Winter Celebration for employees on Feb. 10, the first time the event has been held since 2019. More details are forthcoming.

President Conner provided updates on searches for three vice presidents and members of the president’s Cabinet. As previously announced, Dorothy E. Mosby has been named dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs. Two separate searches — for vice president for enrollment and dean of admissions and financial aid, and for vice president for finance and administration/treasurer — remain on track and are expected to wrap up in the spring semester.

President Conner and Collyer Vice President for Advancement Carey Anne Zucca also shared important updates on plans for a new health, wellness, fitness, tennis, and athletics center, including the good news that Skidmore has received a generous lead gift for the project from the family of Ed and Sue Wachenheim P’85, ’88, ’01; Amy Wachenheim McCaffery ’01 and Michael McCaffery; and College Trustee Kim Wachenheim Wagman ’88, P’15, and David Wagman P’15.

President Conner also thanked all members of the Skidmore community for another successful Skidmore Cares donation drive this year.

Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Orr and Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs Adrian Bautista offered updates on the end of the semester. Dean Bautista reminded employees that Skidmore has rolled out a new partnership with TimelyCare to offer student access to teletherapy services. TimelyCare also offers a service for faculty and staff designed to equip them with information to help students who may be struggling.

Campus Safety Director Tim Munro delivered a presentation on Campus Safety’s staff, its many partnerships on and off campus, and its wide-ranging operations.

The meeting took place online and in person at the Tang Teaching Museum, which offered tours of ongoing exhibitions to staff. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2023.
