Professor Daniels joined the department as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2023 after three years as a postdoctoral assistant professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. A native of Upstate New York, he attended SUNY Geneseo for his undergraduate education before completing his PhD in mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2020. Prof. Daniels is an active researcher in the area of arithmetic algebraic geometry, which is a field of mathematics lying at the intersection of algebra and number theory. In particular, many of his current research projects focus on the p-adic geometry of Shimura varieties and related topics. He also enjoys mentoring undergraduate research and reading projects in number theory and algebraic geometry. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his two small children, playing board games, traveling, and learning new things.
