GEORGIA DITTEMORE ’22: Featured Scholar Highlight

Georgia Dittemore '22

GEORGIA DITTEMORE ’22, from Stow, MA majored at Skidmore in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry. While interested in all aspects of her major she was most intrigued by the synthetic organic chemistry behind drug design, and how it connects to history, business, biochemistry, pharmacology, and more. That is what inspired her to pursue a research opportunity in the Medicinal Chemistry Core at Dana Farber.

She is most proud of maintaining her near-perfect academic transcript while juggling two jobs, her research, and other activities including, serving as a chemistry Peer Academic Coach (PAC) for four semesters, an Organic Chemistry I Teaching Assistant (TA) for four semesters, and as the Communication Chair of the Eastern New York Younger Chemists Committee through the American Chemical Society.

After she finishes her summer program at Dana Farber, she hopes to be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in chemical biology, where she wants to study the intersection of biochemistry, organic chemistry, and molecular medicine. In particular, she wants to study drug discovery and the molecular mechanisms of cancer.

This scholarship brought me closer to fulfilling my dreams. It allowed me to explore all my intellectual curiosities at the institution best suited for me. Without it, it would have been very difficult to afford this dream experience.
