Skidmore College
The Philip Boshoff Writing Center

At the Philip Boshoff Writing Center at Skidmore, trained student tutors offer one-on-one consultations for student writers at every stage of the writing process, from assignment sheet to final revisions. We want to make better writers, not just better writing; rather than editing, we follow the writer's lead to meet their own goals for their project.

Our hours this term (by appointment only):

Monday - Thursday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Saturday, 12 noon - 4 p.m.
Sunday, 12 noon - 10 p.m.

As Skidmore holds steady at Level 2, we plan to open the Writing Center to some in-person tutoring in addition to our online tutoring.  All sessions will be by appointment only. Visitors to the WC must be CoVerified, practice social distancing, and wear face masks at all times. Online sessions will still be available in all time slots. Please check our schedule for time slots in person and online. We look forward to working with you!

Zoom will be our primary tool for online appointments, but we will also support tutoring through Google Docs, Skype, FaceTime, WeChat, voice, or some other method of communication. Please let your tutor know your needs when you schedule.

If you have a draft ready to discuss, we ask that you email it your tutor at least 30 minutes prior to your session so that the tutor can begin work promptly when the session begins. As always, you do NOT need to have a draft to use our services.

For online appointments, the tutor will contact you via email at the start of the hour, so please be online and ready to connect. For in-person appointments, please come to the Writing Center on the 4th floor of the Library. You will be asked to check in at the library door with CoVerified.

One note: if you have scheduled an in-person appointment but need to switch the mode to online, that's fine: please just email the tutor in advance to let them know you need a Zoom link.
