Skidmore College
First-Year Experience

Dear Member of the Class of 2027,

We are excited to welcome you into our residential community at Skidmore College!

As a residential college, we believe in the power of community and shared space. We strive to create inclusive, safe, and creative residences that we hope you will call home.

To help you build community and navigate the transformational challenges of higher education, we have a network of student affairs professionals and trained returning students ready to assist.

One of your first interactions with the Office of Residential Life will be the Housing Questionnaire, which is how we gather information about you in order to assign you housing.

Housing for first year students consists of triple and double rooms in all of the residence halls. All of our residence halls are also substance free, and our campus as a whole is smoke free.

We also offer a number of Special Interest communities, which are available to students of all class years. These communities target different areas of interest, identities, and lifestyles. A few examples include Substance Free, Global, and PRISM communities. For more information on our nine offerings, please visit our dedicated site: Special Interest Communities.

Below you will find some additional information on specific topics that we hope you will find useful.

Housing Questionnaire

The housing questionnaire will be emailed to all students in the Class of 2027 via their Skidmore email address. The questionnaire will be available from May 28th -June 9th.

Please ensure that you share all of the requested information with us honestly, so that we can do our best to meet your housing needs.

More about our Residence Halls

Every room in our halls is carpeted and comes furnished with a desk, chair, bed, mattress, and closet for each occupant. All of the halls also have kitchenette facilities that include a refrigerator, sink, and microwave.

Refrigerators no larger than 3 cubic feet are permitted in rooms; however, microwaves and other appliances with heating elements are not.

What to Pack

Knowing what to bring with you to College can be challenging! To help, we have created a packing list with items that current students and staff suggest bringing.

Wireless Network Access

All of our residential spaces have wireless internet, which require registration to access. You have the option to register before you even arrive on campus.

Our wireless provider, Apogee, has a dedicated support number and a technician on site as a full-time Skidmore employee, to assist with any problems.

Housing Accommodations

Housing accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, taking the student’s medically documented need and prevailing standards for reasonable accommodations into consideration.

All accommodations, including those for housing, are sent to the Student Access Coordinator in Student Academic Services, Meg Hegener.

Dietary Needs and Food-Related Allergies

If you have dietary needs that directly impact your ability to navigate our dining hall, please follow up with Dining Services. They can be reached by phone at (518) 580-5850.

We know that you are receiving a lot of information from many offices, but we hope that you will take a moment to visit our site (www.skidmore.edu/reslife) and learn a little more about what the Office of Residential Life has to offer!

We are also active on Instagram, and will be sharing tips and information throughout the summer: @skidmorereslife.

If you have any questions, please contact us at reslife@skidmore.edu or call us at (518) 580-5765.

We look forward to welcoming you in person this Fall! Enjoy your summer!
